Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm a 52 year old para, (Grade 4 dressage (old grade3) and 2 jumping, . I had a really bad cycle accident 20 years ago, broke my back, fractured my skull, brain damage, coma, lots of other injuries, had to learn to walk and talk again, etc, but eventually my health improved until I could ride again.
Eventually met Jem, who was a misunderstood dangerous rogue who "might bolt and might rear", I rode her for the person who was trying to sell her, liked her, ended up buying her and rebroke and schooled her until now, I've got a lovely horse whose only real fault is over-enthusiasm.
Unusually for a para, I jump, and even more unusually, do XC, which Jem excels at. (We'll be at the RDA nationals in dressage and freestyle to music, but dressage isn't our strong point!) Now I trust her not to refuse unless she doesn't feel I'm balanced, or my course to the jump is such that she'd have to jump really big to get over, and she wouldn't like to risk it, because, dear thing, she tries to look after me.
I was the first classified para to be accepted as a member of BE a few years ago, but had Another really serious accident (handbrake failure, crush injury, # humerous and 9 #ribs - my xrays look like a Meccano set!) before I could enter a competition.
I have now, BE80 at St Leonards, Launceston, Cornwall on the 23rd July. My main challenge'll be remembering the test and courses, as my memory is a bit impaired. Oh, sometimes I have double vision too - my medical armband reads like a medical textbook!
I love riding, though, and this Wobbleberry challenge could have been made for me.
Please contribute to such a very good cause - research into bone cancer and horse-related experiences for people with life-limiting illness. Thank you, Claire xx
