We raise awareness and funds to combat the causes of homelessness

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On Friday 30th November, Dahnish and I slept outside on the cold streets of Birmingham for one night to raise valuable funds and awareness for the homeless. We gave up our warm beds to sleep with nothing but a sleeping bag, a piece of cardboard & a plastic bag.

The night showed some of the harsh realities of homelessness. However, we did not wish to replicate homelessness. This was an exercise to raise awareness of a growing issue in the UK: youth homelessness.

Our Sleep Out will raise money for St Basils, youth homeless charity for the West Midlands and member of End Youth Homelessness (EYH). EYH is the national campaign of 11 homeless charities who club together to share ideas, resources and support to help young people break the cycle of homelessness. EYH is the national partner for The Fine & Country Foundation.

Dan & I can not thank you all enough for the support you have shown us & we just wanted to give you some examples of how your donations will help & what the money will provide:

£4 buys stationery items to help a young person engage in workshops and life skill programmes.

£4 buys a young person a travel card for a day to attend training and interviews.

£10 buys a young person a pair of new shoes for interviews.

£15 buys an emergency food pack.

£20 buys trousers and a smart shirt for an interview.

£25 buys bedding.

£50 will help fund a study kit or specialist clothing & equipment for a young person starting training or a college course.

£80 will fund a day's emergency duty response to homelessness crisis.

£150 will provide a young person with a starter pack of essential items needed for living independently.

£450 will enable one young person to complete an OCN accredited life skills programme.

£500 will provide literacy and numeracy training for up to 8 young people.

We understand that sleeping outside is not for everyone, so all we ask is for you to show your support by sponsoring our page.

Sleep out 2017 was record breaking, with over 3,000 brave supporters across 14 locations around the country, raising an incredible £1.2 million. 2018 promises to be the biggest and best sleep out yet, and it will be with Fine & Country's support.

About the charity

The Fine & Country Foundation has been created to help combat one of the largest social issues in the UK – homelessness. Last year, the Government estimated around 2,414 people sleep on the street on any one night across England, a rise of 36% over three years. Often the reasons for homelessness are misunderstood, with many blaming the individuals for poor life decisions and carelessness. The reality is: people become homeless for a whole range of complex and overlapping reasons that cannot be avoided, such as family breakdowns, mental or physical health problems or debts. Solving homelessness does not only involve putting a roof over people’s heads, it is also trying to tackle the root of the problem and asking the question: why did they became homeless in the first place? The Fine & Country Foundation is dedicated to bringing together all Fine & Country agents in over 300 locations worldwide to raise awareness of the causes of homelessness whilst supporting homeless charities.
