Story
I’m Claire, one of the Mwezi Foundation directors. I’d love it if you could please sponsor me to run the Great North Run so that we can help more Kenyan children achieve their potential to find dignified work through the hours they put in on their homework
thanks to the solar lights that we give to their schools.
None of the UK directors are paid so anything you can donate
will go directly into offering a route out of poverty for children in
Kenya. I believe that helping pupils to study at night is an excellent way of investing in the global future. It is up to the pupils to put the work in, we are just giving them the tools they need, namely, light, in a country where it is dark from 6pm to 6am. With a good education, they have a decent chance of finding a better job which will enable them to contribute to the development of Kenya as an economy, as well as help them to support their family.
I also believe that the way we run the Mwezi Foundation ensures the best use of every penny given. I am in regular direct contact with teachers at the schools we support through WhatsApp to ensure the lights are having the best effect. We are committed to minimal waste through our comprehensive follow up programme. Dorcas and Julia, our Schools Managers, visit every school regularly to collect and replace any broken lights, as well as donate additional lights so
that each school has one light between two.
John in our workshop in Mombasa fixes lights by replacing components so we can redonate them. I can honestly say
we are a lean and efficient charity, with minimal overheads and maximum impact. I will be reminding myself of
this at around mile 10-13 (or possibly earlier!)
Please sponsor me and the team so that the Mwezi Foundation
can give more solar lights to schools in the poorest, rural, final mile
communities of south east Kenya.
