Story
I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease (a form of IBD) in 2005, after receiving numerous possible diagnosises, at the age of 16. I have had several medications and several complications, some being extremely severe and could of killed me. 6 months ago, I had surgery to remove part of my bowel.
Although I've had this surgery, there is no cure for crohn's disease and I will have to be on maintenance medication for life, in order to hopefully prevent me having further relapses and help to maintain remission, and prevent further surgery.
Crohn's and colitis currently affects approximately 240,000 people within the UK which works out as 1 person in every 250. It can strike at any age but tends to strike between the ages of 16 and 30.
Crohn's can affect anywhere within the digestive system, and colitis tends to be sited in the colon. IBD in general goes through patches of remission which at any time, can flare and cause some of the following symptoms; abdominal pain, weight loss, joint/eye/skin problems, bleeding, exhaustion, incontinence/diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting. None of these are pleasant and do people want to talk about.
By helping me raise money for crohn's and colitis, you could be not only making a difference long term in helping to hopefully find a cure, but also helping sufferers with day to day life. Also you could be helping with the current support to help get more sufferers ibd nurses who make a huge difference to our lives.
Please sponsor me and help make a difference. It will be appreciated by not only me, but to all the other's who suffer with IBD
