Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On the 4th of October 2015, we will be running the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise money and awareness for Parkinson's UK.

On June 20th this year we took part in a Walk For Parkinson's event where we climbed Mt. Snowdon in North Wales. We managed to raise over £200 for Parkinson's UK and were fortunate enough to meet inspiring people whose lives are affected by the disease. Although the weather was not our friend that day, it was a very worthwhile experience. This motivated us to work even harder to train towards the Cardiff Half Marathon and continue to raise money and awareness for Parkinson's UK.

Parkinson's is a progressive neurological disease that affects one in every 500 people, which is about 127,000 people in the UK. There is currently no cure, but drugs and treatments are available to manage many of the symptoms, while research into finding a cure continues. Every bit of money raised will help Parkinson's UK and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's.

Chloe's grandmother suffered from Parkinson's for over 20 years and sadly passed away January of this year after a long and courageous battle. Nia's father also suffers a rare condition called Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) which is also a progressive neurological disease and continues to fight everyday. These are just two of many strong people who have to face the daily struggles of a neurological disease. Seeing the effects of these conditions first hand has been extremely difficult as neurological diseases not only affect those suffering but also those around them. Raising money for this charity and aiding research could make all the difference to a family dealing with a condition like this.

Taking on a challenge like this wasn't an easy decision but since committing ourselves we have been training extremely hard and running as often as we can. None of us are natural born athletes and so have found it very tough at times but have continued to push ourselves. There is an endpoint to the race we are taking part in, whereas there is currently no end for sufferers of Parkinson's.

Any donation big or small will make a huge difference to those affected by Parkinson's. We'll be extremely grateful for anything you can give to support us and the charity :)

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.
