This has been a crazy year for all of us but things took an unexpected turn for us all at Easter when Granny Jennifer was rushed into hospital feeling very unwell. On Easter Sunday were informed, via telephone that she was desperately ill and they suspected (later confirmed) a type of blood cancer called Multiple Myeloma. I had never even heard of this type of cancer but we hadn’t much time to even think of questions to ask as they were busy preparing to transfer her to the City Hospital for an emergency proceedure (plasma transfusion) to try and stabilise her, at this stage her kidney function was dangerously low at 10% and her blood was too thick as well as various other symptoms that I can barely remember it was all such a blur!

This is were Myeloma UK comes in, straight away were able to access information and reassurance via their website, and I was able to speak to an expert on the phone also.

Since then Mum/Granny has been receiving cycles of chemotherapy treatment at the Mandeville Unit in Craigavon and more recently has been staying in isolation at Belfast City Hospital for a Stem Cell Transplant. Myeloma UK have provided support throughout by being a source of information as well as via their online support group forums.

Daniel has decided to take on this huge challenge of walking 50km in December in order to try and raise some much needed funds and awareness for Myeloma UK - we had never heard of it before we needed it and you can be sure we were so very grateful to be able to avail of their support when we needed it!

I hope you will support Daniel in his challenge, whether it be by donations or simply by cheering him on..thank you in advance 🧡
