Elise for Life Kilimanjaro Challenge - Group 8 · 5 September 2013 to 16 September 2013 ·
September 2013 I shall (foolishly / brilliantly) be climbing Kilimanjaro... I think i've found myself in an very lucky position. You see Kili has been on my bucket list for some time, so when this oppotunity came my way i was already 90% signed up, then I met Mark Roberts and not only did I shoot up to 110% certaintenty I encouraged 3 of my colleagues to sign up with me.
Mark is pretty damn inspiring, as was his wife Elise. On 4th January 2010, Elise was diagnosed with cancer. Elise battled courageously for 9 months with this dreadful illness and her legacy is this appeal 'Elise for Life' (http://www.eliseforlife.org/) through this appeal Elise aimed to raise £1m for The Christie hospital. Saddly Elise passed away before achieving her goal, yet Mark was not willing to give up.
Mark has gone on to organise some incredible events including climbing the Great Wall of China,…..trekking the volcanic lava fields of Iceland….and cycling 450km through the Mekong Delta from Saigon to Angkor Wat. Now I am in the privileged position of being part of the final push to make the £1m.
I am also in the lucky position of having had little to do with The Christie to date but on speaking with family and friends of my plans to take on this challenge I was shocked by just how many people I know that have been touched by the work they do at The Christie...this is more than enough to motivate me...all I need now is YOU!
The sad fact is that with stats such as 1 in 3 people being diagnoised with Cancer in their life time we are all likely to be impacted by, not only by the work, but the support offered by The Christie.
Elise for Life has agreed that funds raised will be split equally between Melanoma Research, and the new Clinical Trials Unit.
Anything you can offer will help achieve Elise's incredible dream
