Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Sadly, June 2017, Nicola Groves, friend, colleague, mother and wife passed away after a short but valiant battle against pancreatic cancer. During Nic’s final days she was cared for by the team at Bury Hospice.
There are not really words to do justice to the love, care and support which not only Nic but her two sons, Jack and Alex, her husband Mark and all of the friends and family who visited her in those final few days were shown by all of the nursing team and doctors up at the Hospice.

Claire James – In memory of Nic, I wanted to find a way to contribute to the Hospice. So far, I have enjoyed helping out with various ‘artistic’ projects (Creating Christmas/Easter/Bridal Mannequins for their Bury Hospice Charity Shops windows; which I absolutely love doing!). Bury Hospice, Facebook page added a post asking for volunteers to step in ‘The Strictly Best Foot Forward 2018’ as some dancers were unable to continue. I put my name forward, lucky for me I was welcomed into the 2018 group.  Slight problem though! I had no dance partner! I needed someone who wasn’t afraid of a challenge, being out of their comfort zone, a good network of friends and whom would be a keen fundraiser. My good friend Suzanne suggested a mutual friend whom she thought ticked the boxes; Scott Thomas of Phoenix Gym, Bradley Fold.  I approached Scott who was initially hesitant but thankfully he agreed to take part.

Scott Thomas – Not afraid of a challenge, he took part in a charity white collar boxing event last year, so stepping into the ring to dance should be no problem! Scott an ex Professional Football Player for Manchester City Football Club is naturally competitive so joining the Strictly group 5 weeks late with no previous dancing experience he was not fazed.

Please believe me when we say a heartfelt "THANK YOU" for your donations, no matter how great or small, as every penny counts to help towards the upkeep of this incredible service.
