Story
Everyone knows how much my hair means to me. How it helps me express myself. How I love dying it different colours and freak out over my grey hair. Now imagine me with no hair. Bald. Because that is how I’m going to look for quite a while, come January 18th 2018.
Why, you may ask? (And I hope you do)
Because I feel that there isn’t enough awareness surrounding the types of alopecia and what this condition is.
I also believe that Alopecia UK doesn’t get enough funding in order to help and support people who have alopecia.
Did you know there are different types of alopecia?
* Alopecia areata (patches of no hair)
* Alopecia totalis (no scalp hair)
* Alopecia univeralis (no scalp or body hair)
According to the NHS, alopecia areata can occur at any age, although it's more common in people aged 15-29. It is an auto-immune disease that affects one or two people in every 1,000 in the UK. One in five people with alopecia have a family history of the condition.
I have friends and family members who are affected by alopecia. Who have been bullied for it. Who have cried or felt self-conscious because of it. I am doing this for these people. To raise money for a charity for others who have to go through this. I want people to be more educated on the matter and understand how it actually makes people feel on a day to day basis. I believe you can help me do this.
