Story
I'm taking part in the Race to the Base in support The Great North Air Ambulance Service which provides world-class, critical care across the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria.
I had a fall out walking on the moors at the end of November 2021 resulting in a dislocated and broken ankle. Cold temperatures, location and the risk to my limb meant that GNAAS (John, Terry and Phil) came to my aid in amazingly quick time. They did a fantastic job attending to me on the scene, putting my ankle back in place and flying me to the RVI where I then had surgery to fix my ankle fractures. I am incredibly grateful and keen to support them continue to deliver such amazing work.
Ive chosen to complete the 78 mile distance throughout March and am taking part in this challenge to help raise money at the same time as using it to keep me going with my ankle rehab! I'm starting to get back on my feet, using crutches less and starting to get back to exercise gently so this is benefitting both GNAAS and me 😊
GNAAS doctor-led critical care team delivers life-saving treatments at the scene of an incident whether that is on a fell top, a roadside or in a city centre. The charity responded to over 1,600 emergency call-outs last year*, where they performed treatments and procedures which can mean the difference between life or death.*2021
