Story
In 2010, after 18months of horrid tests and visits to the hospital, I got given the news I had Crohns Disease. Crohns is chronic disease of the bowel. Mine is in two places, the worst causing my food 2 hours to pass through my bowel on bad days.
On a bad day, I suffer from crippling pain, bloating, nausea and tiredness, amongst other symptoms, sometimes leaving me bed ridden.
At the age of 28, it was hard to change my habits and my life. I had to change my diet and cut out a lot of foods I loved. It was all for the greater good, so as not to aggrevate my Crohns, but I am on strong medication for the rest of my life, which reduces my immune system.
But, through all of this, I have managed to learn to cope with this condition, with a lot of help from Crohns and Colitis UK. They have been invaluable on how to cope, what to avoid, the different medications and how others have coped. They have given me so much informtion, support and guidance.
I am therefore running because I am one of the lucky ones. My Crohns doesn't stop me running, so I'm running to help those it does and to make all of our lives better and maybe find a cure for this condition.
