Story

In August 2018, I received that phone call and heard the news that no daughter wants to hear... that one of their parents has had a stroke. Dad was just sat watching TV and all of a sudden felt unwell, luckily my sister Kelly was there to help him get the medical attention he needed urgently.

Dad had to stay at the Cherry Burn Unit (Stroke unit) at Newcastle General Hospital for approximately 4 weeks whilst he received the physiotherapy and medication that he needed to get better. I cant thank the nurses, doctors and Physiotherapists enough for what they done for my dad.

The support that he still receives to this day from the stroke association in nothing short of amazing and although this is very daunting for me, I want to try and give a little bit back!

Those who know me well, know that I am in no way a long distance runner, so the fact that I have took the plunge and signed up to a half marathon, shows how much I want to try and give back to the Stroke Association.

When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. The specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community. With more donations and support from you, we can rebuild even more lives.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story xx
