Fundraising for Give A Duck
Give a duck are a charity very close to my heart. As a Play Specialist at Great Ormond Street Hospital, these ducks have realistic hickman lines or porta-caths used for children going through cancer treatment. The ducks, help to make the children feel 'normal' and that someone else is like them that they can relate to.
Give A Duck have been supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital for over 4 years. In that time, this small charity has donated 300 Chemo Ducks for children with cancer. Each Chemo Duck costs £25 for the charity to provide, so that’s £7,500 in fundraising donated to help children with cancer under the care of GOSH.
Give A Duck rely solely on voluntary donations, no government grants/support is provided. Give A Duck also support another 39 hospitals in London and further afield. Their mission is for every child who is diagnosed with cancer in the UK to receive a Chemo Duck.
The charity also provide beautiful unique handmade duck outfits made and donated from Blue Light Babies, a community group of over 7,000 creatives who support Give A Duck on their mission to help bring comfort and support to children facing cancer. To date, an incredible 390 duck outfits and have been sent to GOSH for the children to choose upon their visit to hospital this makes a visit to hospital less daunting and more something to look forward to!
Having seen what an amazing impact these ducks have for children going through the toughest of times through therapeutic play and simple comfort, has made me passionate about raising money for such a worthwhile charity who really do make all the difference.
