Surfiving the Winter

Surfiving the Winter · 10 January 2020
The Wave Project London is a surf therapy charity. It teaches young people confidence and resilience through Surfing.
I volunteered last year on one of the 6-week surf therapy sessions. I mentored a young male who had never surfed before. He absolutely loved it and within the first week he was standing up. The second week he was catching waves all by himself. It was the best feeling in the world to see his smile beaming back at me after he had caught a wave. Some of the young people have never seen the sea before and quite fearful of it. They overcame those fears and eventually they were in the water surfing. Everyone young person gains so much from the sessions.
It is a charity and is run by donations, throughout the winter the surf therapy does not happen. So I and some of the volunteers are raising cash and awareness for of the charity by swimming in some of London's cold water pools and ponds and yep they are cold. We swam last week in Hampstead Heath ponds and it was 6 degrees! Can you spare a little bit of cash to help the young people of London
Thank you
