Story
Andrew hid his cancer well. One of the comments we’ve heard the most recently is, ‘I had no idea he was so unwell’. That’s the way he wanted it. No pity. Just fun!
Through three surgeries and over 40 rounds of chemo we have been looked after brilliantly by our NHS from our local GPs and district nurses to Frimley Park, The Royal Surrey and The Royal Marsden Hospitals.
At Christmas, Andrew became very poorly very quickly. Our first experience of hospice care at home was a doctor kneeling on the floor by the side of the bed caring for Andrew for hours. This physical and emotional support continued for the time we needed it 24 hours a day, not just for Andrew, but for the whole family. Ultimately, it allowed Andrew to pass peacefully at home, in his own bed, surrounded by the people he loved. You can’t put a price on that!
Now Andrew is looking down from the great San Miguel cloud in the sky. We can’t give him the send off that he deserves but we can give something back to the hospice say ‘thank you’.
£20,000 will run the hospice for a day. Let’s see if we can manage two or three days - or even more.
