 LINC - The Leukaemia and Intensive Chemotherapy Fund. We are a small charity based in Cheltenham that supports patients with blood cancer in every way possible. LINC helps all patients within the Gloucestershire NHS Trust.

Our patients face more difficult challenges than even the rest of us. They cannot fight off the smallest hint of infection so the threat from Covid-19 is immense.

For our Outpatients, this is extremely unsettling. Regular appointments have had to become more remote and this has lead to much anxiety about blood tests and medication. Coping with leukaemia is hard enough without the additional risks. All of the LINC outpatients are extremely high risk and will have to isolate for weeks. LINC will continue to support these patients in every way possible. We will provide deliveries of food & medicine if necessary and continue to connect with them wherever possible. 

Rendcomb Ward has eight isolation side rooms which have always had strict infection controls as all of the patients are immune compromised but the added pressures of Coronovirus have brought immense tension and worry for both the patients and staff. LINC funds two clinical psychologists that continue to help our LINC family come to terms mentally with the pressures.

This week, LINC has been asked to fund travel expenses for a family. The patient, a Mum, has three young children and will be receiving a stem cell transplant in Bristol next week. Without help from the charity, it would not be possible for her children to see her for weeks. 

We are indebted to our medical staff who are working so tirelessly to care for our patients.

The work of the LINC charity is now more vital than ever and we will continue to support our patients and staff through these troubling times. As our fundraising events have now all had to be postponed, we are more than ever reliant on donations and people's generosity.
