Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. David and I are running the Berlin Marathon... all 26.2 miles, well that is the plan, and I am raising money for Arthritis Research UK http://www.arthritisresearchuk.org/ I guess it is a bit selfish really as I love wandering around Berlin (running might be a tad different) and I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. Please do not say it... I am not too young. People of any age can get arthritis, including babies, children and teenagers – imagine going through puberty again but this time without being able to play [insert your favourite sport here]. I was lucky to have made it to the grand age of my early 20s before the disease struck, and when I was diagnosed it was Arthritis Research UK who provided the information and advice which made me realise it was not the end of the world having RA, just a bit more of a challenge. Arthritis Research UK has also been instrumental in developing the drugs that keep my arthritis under control and enable me to try to run marathons and hopefully climb a large hill next year (more on that in a few months time) – these are things which a few years ago I thought would be impossible due to the pain and fatigue from my RA - oh the tiredness – forget running a marathon I could not run a bath I was so tired! We chose Berlin because one thing my fat feet (and legs and lungs) do not like are hills and Berlin is flat! Before you ask what I time I think I will make it round in - I hope to make it round in time for supper as I do not like missing meals - I have been promised an Elvis Burger from White Trash! Yum! The dream is that Arthritis Research UK will find a cure for the RA and in the meantime your help and support will enable the charity to keep finding new treatments and provide information and support to sufferers of all ages.
