Story
Me a runner? Don't think so: that's what I would have thought a year ago. But not now!! I can run and it feels amazing.
I've challenged myself to run 10 miles - yes MILES - in the New Forest run on 10th July.
My training is going well. The run isn't affiliated to any particular charity, so I thought I'd choose to raise money to help those less fortunate than us. So, can you spare a pound or two please?
Let me tell you a little about the DABW Foundation:
It was created by a few friends to lessen the plight of vulnerable and forgotten underprivileged children, mainly in Africa.
All activity is carried out in memory of a beautiful and significant human being, namely Dorothy Wood, a Trustee who sadly died before being able to see the results that the charity’s work yields.
During its 3+ years of existence, it has provided funding for the following projects in a remote village called Kanyenda in rural Malawi, Africa.
1 A Fresh Water Well, which was responsible for there being no new cases of childhood Cholera in the village just 6 months after it was commissioned.
2 Improved facilities at the local school (890 children), with locally manufactured desks, chairs, benches, white boards + easels, books and prizes for students that came top of their class.
3 A Maize Grinding Mill, for the village community to have a small business enterprise and to reduce the great distances the women had to walk to get the maize (corn) ground into flour which is the main ingredient in every meal. Once a day.
4 Installation of mains Electricity to the village for various uses but mainly for the next project which is:
5 A Health Clinic, to help the village and the local community with its many health issues, as the nearest hospital is a 3 hour walk away, by night. It is just too hot in the day.
It is very difficult not to spoil the children with gifts etc, which we have tried to do on many occasions but it is not the solution. We are teaching them how to fish and not giving them fish. . . . . If you see what I mean.
So please think carefully about your donation. We really do need to help these little ones out. They all currently live lives of quiet desperation, in total silence without complaint.
Being a charitable Trust, all monies donated are spent directly on projects improve these kids’ lives.
There is a lot more info and pictures on our website, www.dabw.org
Enjoy the rest of this amazing day.

Thank you, from all the beautiful African children that you may meet
