Story
The City of London Rifles' Lodge was formed in 1936 from members of the 6th City of London Rifles' Regiment. However, the Regiment's history starts in 1859 and through various developments received Battle Honours in South Africa in 1902, and further Battle Honours throughout the First World War.
During the Second World War, there were eleven members of the Lodge in H.M Overseas forces and the Home Guard. Unfortunately, the Lodge also recorded the death of seven Brethren during this period.
The Lodge opened its membership to those other than members of the Regiment in 1968. However in the most recent years we have had past servicemen who have joined or will be initiated into our Lodge, some of which have served overseas in various war zones.
Since learning more of their experiences and the consequences of combat and because of our Lodge's strong military past we are keen to support COMBAT STRESS - the UK's leading charity for veterans mental health. They do great work in helping former servicemen and women with their trauma-related mental health problems. We feel that the least we can do is to "challenge" ourselves with this walk to raise money for this worthy cause.
