We are Citizens Cymru Wales, a diverse alliance of faith, education, charity and community organisations working together for social justice and the common good as part of Citizens UK. In response to the Covid-19 crisis, we are fundraising to support the most vulnerable members of our communities.
We are fundraising to support the most urgent needs in the community. Examples of the kinds of needs our communities are facing right now include:
- Providing equipment to children struggling to keep up with school work or access educational resources due to a lack of WIFI or basic IT equipment - for example the work Race Council Cymru are doing in Swansea trying to provide technology to those living in poverty and to children of asylum seekers and refugees
- Vetting and training volunteers to drive GPs to appointments in the community, like the work ACE is doing in Caerau and Ely
- Providing PPE to grieving families so they can give their loved ones dignity in burial, like the work being done by White Rose Funerals in Cardiff
- Fundraising for fabric and ribbon for the sewing of scrubs and other accessories for our frontline health workers, like Croeso Menai are doing in Anglesey
- Hardship funds for the most vulnerable members of communities who have immediate needs they are struggling to meet
Funds raised will be distributed via an an application process to be made by a member organisation of Citizens Cymru Wales.
If there are any leftover funds, they will go towards supporting any smaller, struggling member organisations to continue campaigning with their Citizens alliance over the next year.
