Circle of Hope was formed in 2013 to raise awareness in the Yorkshire region of the plight of brain tumour patients. We are an official umbrella group of Brain Tumour Research and all our funds raised go directly to them to fund the fight against this indiscriminate disease.
Founding members Jim & Gill Murphy (who are dearly loving husband and wife) have both been diagnosed with Brain Tumours. Imagine what are the chances of that both of them finding out they have a brain tumour ???
Linda & Terry Wood (Gill's mum and dad) have therefore been touched by this illness along with Sarah Smith (through the loss of family members and some very dear friends) making up the 5 founding members of the Circle of Hope. The group, who are intent on seeking a cure for this dreadful illness, chose Brain Tumour Research as their charity of choice over other charities because the funds go directly into research to find a cure. They hope that by having their own local identity in the Yorkshire region they will appeal to local businesses and individuals to donate whilst enjoying national impact through Brain Tumour Research's wider reach and resources available.

Gill's Story
Gill after a series of seizures in March 2002 was told she had a brain tumour. She then underwent a craniotomy in April 2002. A few weeks later she was told the results of the biopsy on the tumour which had been extracted. It was classified as a grade 2 Astrocytoma, grade 2 meaning that it was benign so we were mightily relieved when they told us it was benign (although subsequently we were told by a specialist that there is no such thing as a benign tumour).
"I am always amazed at just how generous the general public are when we set up our stalls in Filey, Cawood, Castleford ,Kippax, Garforth or Selby. I don't know who first made the comment about Yorkshire people but I have only seen really genuine one's who dig into their pocket every week to buy a raffle ticket" - Linda Wood
"I'd like to thank everyone that helps us with our fundraising efforts. Wendy in particular is such a great help to us when we hold our tombola events in Filey and she has done so much to raise the awareness of brain tumours. Her mum and friend Carol have also been fabulous too. I'd like to also say a big thank you to Jim in Rothwell for all the gifts he donates for our events. "'I have seen over the last few years through our fundraising events just how prevalent Brain Tumours are. My grandad had one and Jim's best friend Ian Crowe died 4 years ago in his sleep without even knowing that he had one. A close friend of ours, Julie, lost her brother to a brain tumour and she misses him every single day. Her wonderful daughter Megan always talks about just how great her uncle was and how she stills misses him so much too. My ask is don't allow this to continue, please dig into your pocket and contribute or help us by holding your own event for Circle of Hope" - Gill Murphy
In the last 7 years our fundraising events and weekly tombola stalls have helped us to raise almost £90,000. WOW what an amount but this hasn't been easy!

Every day of research costs £2,740. As a lasting record of your generosity, a tile will be placed on the Wall of Hope at a pioneering Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence. Representing another day of life-saving research, your tile will be inscribed with your logo or a simple message of your choice.
Some startling facts are :
Brain tumours kill more children than leukaemia or any other cancer.
Brain tumours kill more women under the age of 35 than breast or any other cancer.
Brain tumours kill more men under the age of 45 than prostate or any other cancer.
Brain tumours kill more women than cervical cancer.
Brain tumours receive just 1% of national cancer research funding.

Our collective voice carries greater weight in nationwide coverage and adds to our capacity in lobbying local MPs up and down the country as well as the halls of Westminster. An additional benefit of this unique coalition is the ease in which the most important campaign message can be passed at a local level; Much, much more funding is needed for brain tumour research if we are to find a cure for brain tumours.
