Story
Jack Broderick sadly died on March 24, aged just 10.
His mum, Vicki will be joining 100 women and children as ‘Team Jack’ for Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life in Delamere Forest on Sunday, May 15.
Jack, a pupil at St Bertelines Primary School, developed a swelling on his face in 2012.
Doctors diagnosed rhabdomyosarcoma which involved a tumour wrapped around his jaw. The cancerous cells had also spread to his lungs.
Jack immediately started a six month course of chemotherapy treatment.
He continued treatment for almost a year, went back to school and made a good recovery.
Sadly in December 2014 a routine scan showed that the cancer was growing again and had spread to the base of his skull.
Jack returned to hospital and travelled to the Netherlands and Leeds for clinical trials.
He spent as much time as possible at school and remained positive and optimistic.
He underwent more radiotherapy over christmas but was not well enough to endure any more treatment and Jack passed away on 24th March 2016.
Sadly, Jack's isn't the only story we could tell you about those we know who have been taken by this terrible disease.
Anything we can all do to contribute to a cure, better treatment or earlier diagnosis is invaluable.
