On Saturday June 25th a group of 9 colleagues from MARS will attempt to cycle 150 miles in one day.  Starting from Seascale in the Lake District on
the West Coast traversing central England and the Pennines and finishing in Whitby on the East coast. After a dawn start we expect to be in the saddle for at least 15 hours, it will literally be a race to finish in daylight before darkness descends again! The route entails heading up some ridiculously steep elevations (Up to 30% in places) through the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire Moors where we will accumulate 4,500 metres of climb (half way up Everest!).

Now, most of us are not experienced competitive riders, with only a few of us with experience of cycling anywhere near 100-150 miles in a day! So we are all training really hard with weekly evening/weekend cycles, commuting by bike and attending smaller sportive rides ahead of the big day!

This event isn’t just about accomplishing our personal and team goals but is also a great opportunity for you to support a worthy charity, Hounds for Heroes. Hounds for Heroes provide specially trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled men and women of both the UK Armed Forces and Emergency Services.
