Story
In May 2019 we lost my wonderful, beautiful auntie Ger to suicide. After multiple delays due to Covid-19, my Mum Jillian and I are (finally!!) running the London marathon this October in Ger’s honour to raise money for suicide prevention and mental health support.
Ger is sorely missed by the many people that loved her, especially her two children who were just 15 and 19 when she died. As we learn to live without her, we want to prevent another family going through the agony of losing somebody they love to suicide. We also want to support anybody struggling in the lowest and darkest moments of their lives.
Any donations for Mind’s life saving work are hugely appreciated.
Please, please look after yourself and your mental health. Speak to each other. Reach out and ask for help if you are struggling. And look out for people around you. If this tragedy has taught us anything it’s that we have no idea of the struggles other people are facing.
Ger took me shopping for running trainers when I went to stay with her in California. She was training for her first half marathon with her daughter Claire, but died before the race day so never got to complete it. So this marathon is for her.
Rest in peace Ger, we adore you
