Story
Ar ôl colli un o’n myfyrwyr yn ddiweddar i hunanladdiad, mae myfyrwyr Chweched Glantaf yn awyddus iawn i godi gymaint o arian â phosib i’r elusen ‘YoungMinds’ er mwyn helpu lleihau problemau iechyd meddwl mewn myfyrwyr a phobl ifanc. Rydym felly yn bwriadu seiclo 4300km yn ystod nosweithiau rieni drwy gydol y flwyddyn. Dyma’r pellter i Begwn y Gogledd.
Mae problemau iechyd meddwl yn effeithio 1 ymhob 10 person ifanc. Maent yn cynnwys iselder, pryder ac anhwylderau bwyta sy’n cael eu achosi gan ffactorau fel rhywioldeb, ymddangosiad personol, straen, bwlio neu gam-drin yn ystod plentyndod. Felly, maent yn aml yn ymateb uniongyrchol i’r hyn sy’n digwydd yn eu bywydau. Un ymhob pedwar person ifanc sy’n ystyried hunanladdiad o ganlyniad i iechyd meddwl. Mae 1 ymhob 10 hunanladdiad yn y DU rhwng 15 a 24 oed. Er hyn, dim ond 14% o hunanladdiadau o dan 20 oed sydd wedi bod mewn cysylltiad gyda’r gwasanaeth iechyd meddwl arbenigol. ‘YoungMinds’ yw’r brif elusen yn y DU sydd wedi ymrwymo i wella lles emosiynol ac iechyd meddwl plant a phobl ifanc. Wedi gyrru gan eu profiadau, mae’r elusen yn ymgyrchu, ymchwilio ac yn dylanwadu ymarfer a pholisi. Maent yn darparu ystod eang o wasanaethau er mwyn gwella iechyd meddwl gan gynnwys llinell gymorth i rieni sy’n darparu cymorth i filoedd o rieni bob blwyddyn.
Byddwn yn gwerthfaworgi unrhyw gyfraniad. Diolch.
After recently losing one of our own students to suicide, Glantaf sixth form students are very keen to raise as much money as possible for the ‘YoungMinds’ charity to help to reduce mental health problems in students and young people. We are therefore aiming to cycle 4300km during parents evenings throughout the year. This is the distance to the North Pole.
Mental health problems affect about 1 in 10 children and young people. They include depression, anxiety and eating disorders caused by factors like sexuality, personal appearance, stress, bullying or childhood abuse. Therefore they are often a direct response to what is happening in their lives. One in Four young people in the UK experience suicidal thoughts as a result of mental health. 1 in 10 suicides in the UK are by those aged 15-24. However, only 14% of suicides aged under 20 have been in contact with the specialist mental health services.
YoungMinds’ is the UK’s leading charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people. Driven by their experiences, the charity campaigns, researches and influences policy and practice. They provide a range of services to improve mental health including their Parents Helpline which provides a lifeline to thousands of parents every year.
We would appreciate any donations. Thank you.
