Virgin London Marathon 2013 · 21 April 2013 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm running the Virgin London Marathon 2013 for the CHECT (ChildHood Eye Cancer Trust) as it's a charity that is incredibly important to me and my family. In 2010 we recieved the devistating news that our nephew Joel, age 3, had Retinoblastoma. Following surgery to remove the eye containing the tumor, he had to have chemotherapy.
Brave Joel, now age 5 and full of beans, has beaten this terrible disease. He now has a prosthetic eye and continues to have regular check ups.
For me running the marathon is a great personal challange and i'm proud to be able to raise funds for such a great charity.
The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) is the only UK charity dedicated to providing support to families affected by retinoblastoma (Rb). Our support workers are here to help families get through diagnosis and treatment, and are available during clinics or later by phone and email.
We work closely with our members to help raise awareness of Rb nationally. We believe that everyone should know children can get cancer in their eyes, and it is treatable. A considerable amount of the money raised by Childhood Eye Cancer Trust also goes towards funding research projects specifically related to retinoblastoma.
