Story
Thanks for visiting my Race for Life page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online - it's quick, easy and totally secure.
In August 2012 I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer following a total thyroidectomy for an auto immune disease. In the same appointment where I was told about the cancer I was given the all clear. I was so incredibly lucky.
40 miles away my brother in law Igi was seriously ill in hospital. The doctors couldn't find what was wrong with him. The same week I was diagnosed with cancer, Igi was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoma of the kidney. A week later we stood by his bedside as he slipped away and died.
Watching my nephew, Matteo, then 18 months, say "bye daddy" is an image I will never forget. The complete helplessness I felt whilst hugging my 9 year old nephew, Ciaran, as he sobbed saying he didn't want his Dad to die is a feeling I will carry with me forever. And my heart breaks to think that Isabella will have no memories of her daddy as she was only 4 months old. Only by supporting charities like Cancer Research can we hope that another family can be saved the heartache and devastation that we've all felt.
Events like Race for Life are vital in funding Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. By sponsoring me, we can unite and create a force that cancer can't ignore.
