Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Well it's now my turn to stand up and be counted and raise some money for a good cause.
Over the years I've witnessed the great work done by my friends to raise money for so many worthy causes, but to date I haven't raised anything myself.
Now all that's about to change as I have chosen to support the Alzheimer's Society .Over the last couple of years my close and extended family has been tragically affected by this cruel disease . It's heartbreaking to watch the ones that you love slowly losing all ability to remember and communicate with you to a point where they don't even appear to know you anymore.
Why now ? Because two wonderful people in my life have suffered at the hands of this disease and I want to raise some money to help the Alzheimer's Society in the great work they do.
Gill Smith has been and still is a wonderful mother and grandmother to Andrea and my 4 children but about 6 years ago Gill was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Her condition slowly deteriorated until in December 2015 she had to go into a nursing home where she could receive 24hr care and assistance. I'm so glad to say she is in good physical health and has the best care and environment we could wish for .
Sadly my uncle Geoffrey Davies who was also diagnosed with Alzheimer's died this this January from complications which lead to pneumonia.
So now I have decided it's time for me to stand up and be counted . The Alzheimer's Society is making great progress into the research, prevention and care of this disease and I'm going to do what I can to raise some money to help them .
Many of you will know me from one of my favourite sports: running , but for the last two years I have also tried out some beginners Triathlon races and loved them . My weakest Triathlon sport is the swimming : so here is my Charity Fundraising challenge :
I have now entered the Lake Coniston End to End Chill Swim on the 2nd of September 2017, the distance of the swim ( End to End of the lake) is 5.25 miles (approx 8500 m) . There is no way in the world at the moment I can swim this distance without drowning !!! so this summer I'm going to have to train and train, then train some more until I get up to a decent level of fitness and swimming skill , it's the only way I'm ever going to get to the other side of that Lake without being fished out by the emergency boats !
I would be so grateful if you could motivate me with your donations no matter how large or small .Every penny counts and every single donation is another person that I can't afford to let down ! (no pressure LOL).
Thanks for taking the time to read my story.
