Story
I was diagnosed with MND in October 2018 and have been living with the disease since. Over this time I have slowly lost the ability to walk unaided and have some difficulty breathing. I have been completely overwhelmed by the support that I have received from my employer, West Midlands Police, as well as from friends and colleagues in policing. Lots of awareness and fundraising events have taken place including charity singles, walks, runs, cycle rides, cake sales, raffles and more. Over 350 people from across the policing family have signed up to run in the Liverpool marathon. This support is inspirational and has given me strength to keep going.
Mission 5000 offers me a chance to play my part. I pledge to walk 5000 steps between now and my retirement from West Midlands Police on 25 September, I know that this will be slow and a little painful but I would like to walk a step in support of everyone of the 5000 people living with MND in the UK, raise awareness of the disease and to thank the #WMPMND team for all of their dedication and support over the last two years.
With your generous support I hope to raise £500 and promise to post α daily update on progress from Monday 14 September. I aim to complete this challenge as I walk out of our HQ building for the last time on my retirement as a police officer on 25th September.
I have been overwhelmed by the support so far, thank you so much. I’ve updated my target to £1500.
