I was diagnosed with Vasculitis in 2012. Vasculitis is a rare disease of the immune system which, if not treated promptly can be fatal. Fortunately I was diagnosed in time and after an extensive initial treatment period, involving steroids and chemotherapy the disease went into remission and has thankfully remained that way. Not everyone is fortunate in getting an early diagnosis and good treatment. This can result in permanent disabilities or in rare cases death. Little is understood about what causes Vasculitis and whilst it can be treated very successfully there is no known cure. The Coast to Coast walk is 194 mile trek across Northern England, devised by the walking legend Alfred Wainwright. It starts at St Bees in Cumbria and finishes at Robin Hoods bay in Yorkshire. Training has been underway since January. All being well I hope to complete the crossing in 13 days, stopping at hostels and B&B along the route.
