Story

WSUP is a grass-roots project that supports those seeking help in the local community. We provide practical and emotional support specifically to service users who are experiencing homelessness, vulnerable housing or are recovering from illness/addiction. The charity is run 100% by volunteers.

This project we’re raising money for is to start a Soup Kitchen & Night Shelter for the homeless, we found a derelict building and through 12 months of negotiations we secured what you would call a 10 year peppercorn lease which means we now own that building for the next 10 years  completely rent free as long as we do it up.

Since then we raised over £70,000 and we have the building watertight, roof repaired, electrics put in, floor repaired, gas going in and the walls are painted, but we are still around £30,000 short to finish the project as we need a New Kitchen, Disabled Bathroom, Toilets, Shower Room, Partitioned Office built, all this and then we can open our doors finally to the homeless.

The irony of this story is WSUP itself has actually been homeless ourselves for almost a year now as the building we we’re in was being knocked down and we we’re given notice 2 years ago to leave, this is why we went in search of a new building to look after the 100+ service users we look after every week, now these are people either homeless or on the poverty line with a lot of them have serious mental health & addiction issues 😔 WSUP had been running there for about 6 years and we managed to stay for 12 months but since the pandemic started we’ve literally been looking after these people underneath a Gazebo and serving food through a doorway.

We’re so desperate now to get this project finished and let’s get these people in the warmth including our volunteers who themselves are the unsung hero’s like Mark & Gwen given their time and effort’s every week thank you so much, the people we are helping are the most needed in our society, the forgotten people if you like, let’s not walk on by anymore and let’s give something back and do our bit to help 🙏

Thank you so much for reading this far and please give generously as every penny goes to helping the homeless and giving them a place of safety and somewhere to be listened too 😊

My goal is to raise £5000 personally 🎯 So if you can help in any way I would be greatly appreciated as I’ll run 5k 🏃‍♂️ on Sunday 18th April and let’s see what we can pull out the bag thank you 😊
