My beautiful fiancé, Fran, passed away at the age of 33 on 24th July, following a 2 year battle with bowel cancer. For the last days of her life, after it became impossible to continue to manage her symptoms at home, she was cared for at the Hospice in the Weald. The nurses and doctors were absolutely wonderful in looking after Fran, making her as comfortable as possible. They also looked after her family, providing emotional support, and they enabled me to spend this precious final period with Fran as her finance. They were kind, considerate and could not do enough for us, making an unbearable time a little more bearable. They continue to support us now, and we will be forever grateful!
The Hospice in the Weald is not part of the NHS, it is entirely funded by charitable donations and the amazing work they do supports thousands of patients and families through times of real need. In memory of Fran, and to raise funds to ensure others can continue to benefit from this fantastic service, I am running 10km in the annual Hospice run on 19 September.
