Story
2022 marks 30 years since my dad passed away having suffered from a brain tumour.
Dad was a Biology teacher and I remember him talking to me post operation in complete awe of the skills of the surgeon who operated on him.
Under a local anaesthetic he was able to communicate with the team in theatre whilst they operated, which served to confirm no damage to the brain was caused during the procedure to remove the tumour. His euphoria post op was contagious.
Sadly over the following 12 months the cancer returned and despite different treatments he passed away in 1992.
During these 30 years, my Mother-In-Law and Father-In-Law also sadly passed away due to Cancer.
Many of my friends and friends of family have also been touched by Cancer in different ways, directly or indirectly. Some survived but sadly some did not.
I remember those who were taken 'too early' and strive to use my time as productively as possible.
The survivors, including my Mum, bring me hope and motivation. Anything is possible. Nothing unconquerable. It's never over until it's over.
Through all these encounters, Macmillan have provided wonderful support, care and respite to patients and their immediate family.
As a multi-sport athlete, this year in raising funds for Macmillan, I'm dedicating all the Races I enter to those who have lost their lives to Cancer and in celebration of those who defy the odds and live on with renewed purpose.
There will be several races this year, but the pick of the bunch include the following: -
The ROC, Abersoch, Wales (14th May 2022) (1.5km sea swim, 50km Bike Ride to the base of Snowdon, 12 kM run up to the Summit of Snowdon @ 1085m and then back down, 50KM Bike Ride back to the start with a 1KM beach run to finish)
Xtri BLACKLAKE, Montenegro (10th September 2022) (4km Lake swim - 4 AM start so the swim will be in TOTAL Darkness, 188KM Bike with over 3000m elevation gain, 42KM run including a 20km + mountain section with over 2000m Climb)
