Story
Brothers and sisters please lend me your... eyes :)
My name is Chris and this will be my second year supporting prostate cancer research. last year I did a fund raising event for movember, in which I had set myself a personal milestone of swimming 5KM . bearing in mind I'd never swam more than 1KM before . I managed to do it last year in just under 3hours with only a month of training and smashed my target of £250 and raised a blinding £525
This year I am going one step further, the aim is to lift a total gross weight of 100 tonnes.....that's right 100 tonnes in just under 12 hours. thankfully I won't be performing this feat alone 'phew' as I will have a few people helping me out here and there, however most of the weight will be lifted by myself. to put that into perspective to do this in under 12 hours I would need to perform 84 100kg deadlifts every hour. I know I'm a madman but just like last year I like to set myself a ridiculous challenge. but as you some of you know I tend not to do things by half.
the event will be taking place at Bannatyne Grove Park and I will be starting at 10am to 10pm with small breaks and , a person to keep a count of the weight being lifted. any and all support on the day would be welcome.
I do have a very personal attachment to prostate cancer UK as many of my friends and family are aware my father is fighting this disease. we however were lucky, my dad got a PSA test done thank to our doctor and the cancer was found early. radiotherapy and hormonal tablets have helped to shrink the cancer and we are a couple of months away from the all clear.
sadly however many men are not so lucky. 1 in 8 men are due to get it at some point in there life, if not treated at the earliest instance it can spread and the survival rate once that happens is 30%,
if caught early the survival rate is 98%
PSA test's have a nickname as follows; Prevent the Silent Assassin
the money raised from this will go towards funding PSA tests which is another way of detecting prostate cancer however it is not perfect as some men who have prostate cancer have normal PSA levels ( roughly 15% of case ). so on top of PSA's testing its to support research into a more accurate method of detecting prostate cancer early.
to family and friends over 50 I say this, do not be embarrassed to get a check up. its better to be safe and alive then to be embarrassed and dead.
any and all donations are gratefully welcomed and please remember to gift aid if you can so we can all stick it that little bit more to the tax man
Much Love
Christopher Gillard
