Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So I crazily decided having successfully completed the Robin Hood Half in September to do it all over again.... another 13.1 miles, this time competing in the inaugural "The Big Half" in London on Sunday 4th March 2018. (https://www.thebighalf.co.uk)
Now knowing I can cover 13.1 miles without keeling over, I am running for another Charity but with a much bigger goal.I've chosen to support the British Heart Foundation and I am hoping to raise over £1000.00 (https://www.bhf.org.uk)
It would seem as I get older it's apparent that I've many friends and family who haven't quite looked after their ticker as well as they could!
Lifestyle, stress, diet, or pure bad luck on the genetics it would seem many of us are unaware of the ticking time bomb we may have inside of us. And yes, even you healthy runners and sports fanatics are not immune.
The British Heart Foundation have a clear mission:
"to win the fight against cardiovascular disease and our vision is a world in which people do not die prematurely or suffer from cardiovascular disease."
Not only do they fund research into this devastating disease, that is the second largest cause of death (after Cancer) but they also fund prevention through keeping people informed of the measures they can take to reduce their chances of developing cardiovascular disease.
Whilst there are some factors which we can not change (e.g. Family history & Ethnicity) Staying Active, Exercise, Stress, Diet, Alcohol and Smoking are all factors which play a significant part in prevention, all of which are lifestyle decisions we can choose..
So I believe this is a very worthwhile cause and you should dig deep to support me in pounding round the streets of London on what is likely to be a very Cold Sunday morning.
Hopefully I won't be needing a defribrillator at the finish line!
Chris
