Story
I'm glad to report that we successfully completed the challenge in our target time of 8 hours. The weather was foul for much of the time but did brighten up for us towards the end. I discovered that my boots aren't waterproof nor indeed any other clothing I was wearing but you know what, I enjoyed it!
Thanks so much for your very kind donations and I include a short snippet from Tearfund about its work in East Africa...
In northern Kenya, one of our partners is currently involved in emergency relief efforts. In Somalia and Ethiopia we are working through the local church to help communities in the long term. Projects already undertaken in the region to boost people’s resilience have included earth dams being built to store water, distribution of drought-resistant seeds, introduction of rainwater harvesting, food-for-work programmes being started to support the most vulnerable households and projects launched to tackle soil erosion....
Thanks again, Chris (photos attached from the top of each peak and at the end).
Hi,
On Saturday 16th July my Dad & I will undertake the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge. This takes the form of attempting to walk the peaks of Pen-y-ghent(691m), Whernside(728m) and Ingleborough(723m), in under 12 hours, a distance of 24 miles. These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
In so doing I hope to raise a few pounds for the Christian charity Tearfund. They provide on the ground aid and assistance to those most in need and do so through a network of church partners. They are truly the hands and feet of Christ in action. Specifically, any monies raised will go to Tearfund's East Africa appeal where yet again we are seeing scenes of people, most tragically children, reduced to a state of despair. Organisations like Tearfund are amongst those on the ground who can bring hope amongst this suffering.
Thanks so much,
Chris
p.s. Dad draws his pension in December and is leading the way!
