Story
We lost our nephew Gavin Russell recently to Bone Cancer. He was 20 years old. A bright light in our life, and teenager who lived his life coping with the challenges of Ewing Sarcoma. A lover of music, not a performer but a creator, an inquisitive mind, striving for excellence for his art. He was studying to be a sound engineer and loved discovering how sound worked and how it could be used. Unfortunately his life was short but he inspired others to do their best. Gavin will be missed but never forgotten, He enjoyed seeing the displays we created in our garden, as did many other people who often asked if we were doing it for charity, Up to now it has been for the love of doing it, and seeing the joy it brings during the dark nights of winter. But this year we have put even more love and time into creating something very special and our lights shine for the bright light that will never go out in the memory of Gavin. Please come and see our display, walk around the garden and enjoy, and make a donation for the research so gratefully needed so we can understand more about why Ewing Sarcoma effects teenagers in our families.
We are fundraising for Liberty’s Legacy (a Special Fund for Bone Cancer Research Trust) and those funds go to research into Ewing Sarcoma.
£30 could fund an hour of essential laboratory time for our researchers investigating new treatments for primary bone cancer.
£85 is enough to fund one of our talented, young researchers for an entire day in the laboratory as they work towards their PhD studying primary bone cancer.
£150 allows us to put on one of our Bone Cancer and Bone Tumour Support Groups allowing those affected by primary bone cancer to come together to discuss topics that are important to them and their family in a safe environment.
£400 is enough to fund a top-scoring junior doctor or medical student to undertake a placement in a specialist treatment centre for primary bone cancer patients, allowing us to raise awareness and encourage specialism in the field.
The Bone Cancer Research Trust is dedicated to saving lives & improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer. Despite being small, they fund more research projects exploring primary bone cancer than any other organisation. Other large UK cancer research charities do not prioritise bone cancer patients, in 2019 just 0.028% of their research spent went to bone cancer – not even close to 1%! Last year alone, Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research to save lives!
