Story
If 2020 has an entertainment subtitle it has to be "with a heavy heart" and this is our "with a heavy heart" message about this year's Nottingham Christmas Covers Party which, as you can imagine, will not be going ahead this year.
We have looked into some work-arounds like filming and streaming an event (which would have been the 19th annual Christmas Covers Party). While the legal issues with presenting covers in this way is the official reason for this not being possible, one of the two angels on our shoulders kept saying that Christmas Covers really needs to happen in a room full of people and good times.
The same angel also went on to ask if we really wanted a permanent record of how little practice and how much eating has taken place this year - which was, frankly, uncalled for.
The angel on the other shoulder, however, kept reminding us to keep plugging as the real reason for Christmas Covers is to make money for charities who will all be suffering this year as well. In particular, it has felt like a real kicker to not support Nottinghamshire Hospice who the Covers Party has raised money for for many years.
We have therefore set up this fundraising page with the proceeds going to Nottinghamshire Hospice. Money donated via this page will help the Hospice to provide care for patients with terminal and life limiting illnesses, and their loved ones.
This has been a tough year financially for a lot of people and we appreciate that there will be many asks at this time of the year, but if you can spare any amount that would be amazing.
As we speak, Pfizer are in talks with the Doug Whippy, owner and CEO of the Mr Whippy empire about using its team to deliver the vaccine at a safe temperature. We can see, in the words of Dolly Parton, "the light of a clear blue morning" and things are just starting to look up...so by this time next year we'll be sending out warnings that tickets are selling fast that our best friends will not heed and we can party like its 2019.
Have a lovely and safe Christmas.
