Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Butterwick Hospice Care gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now! Every penny counts. This is a small challenge for me compared to the challenges which face the people this money will help.

Thanks to everyone for supporting me.

Update - 27th August - Training is a bit up and down again this year. There have been a few times I have had to rest due to either colds, which have come to nothing, or aches and pains. I'm able to run 7 miles now and am due to do an 8 mile run hopefully today. I did a 5 mile run the other day in pouring rain and nearly drowned. When I set out, the sun was burning down so I covered myself in suncream but that was washed off withing 10 minutes. I did get blowdried and burned again during the last mile.

29th August - Well I did the 8 mile run. I had mapped it out a couple of weeks ago using my usual 3 mile circuit plus from the High Street through to Preston Park in Eaglescliffe and back. Only problem was, when I got to Preston Park, I couldn't remember whether I had to turn straight back or run round it first so I ran round rather than be disapppointed I hadn't run as far as I wanted. Just past the High Street, I went the long way home. It seemed to take quite a bit longer than expected and when I checked the directions, found I was not supposed to go round the park and I was supposed to come home the short way. I had actually ran 9 miles. Ouch!

I needed a toilet stop in the High Street so went to the public toilets to find them closed for refurbishment.  I called in at the Black Bull where the ladies always used to be just inside the door so I knew no-one would see me go in and chase me back out. They had changed things round. The first door was a disabled toilet, the next the gents. I decided to use the disabled one. When I was finished, I pulled the cord to put the light out and heard a 'beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep'. I had only pulled the emergency cord. Needless to say, I was back out on the High Street, running rather quickly. Oops!

My race number has just arrived. This is where I start to get rather nervous as there is no backing out now.

17th Sept -managed 11 miles today. Ok, it was only 10.92 miles. If only I'd run for 1 more minute. I've been telling everyone that the run is  a week on Sunday. It's actually 2 weeks on Sunday. I'd got myself all worked up ready to go. Hope I can keep it up for an extra week.

Only 4 1/2 days to go. One more slow 3 mile run tomorrow then rest for a few days. I'm eating like a horse now, mainly carbs, lots of veg and some protein. I've been avoiding fats but my daughter made a trifle for a leaving do at work and brought most of it home. Couldn't let it go to waste now, could I? I'll be up at 7 on Sunday, should arrive in Newcastle about 9 and set off running shortly before 11. I am hoping to be back in South Shields by 1pm in time to see the Red Arrows salute us.

I did it.  My position was 23,965 overall, time was 2 hours 19 minutes. I am disappointed with my time but it was very hot for me personally so I decided not to push myself, especially as I saw 3 people stretchered into ambulances (Last year, it was scorching hot and 5 people died). And I did get back in time to see the Red Arrows.

Thank you so much to everyone who supported me during my training and to everyone who has sponsored me. Money already donated has been passed to the hospice. If you know anyone else who might like to donate, this page will be available until January. I will update as and when I get any more sponsor money.

Thanks Christine xxx

Only 2 more people to see to collect sponsor money. Already thinking about next year. It'll be my 10th. Just hoping my creeky bones will hold me up. lol
