Thanks for visiting my fundraising page
My nephew Joe (pictured with big sis Nurse Holly) suffers from Diamond Blackfan Anaemia ("DBA"). Myself and 13 family and friends are doing the Great North Run in aid of the DBA-UK Support Group.
DBA is a rare bone marrow disorder which results in the inability to produce red blood cells vital for carrying oxygen around the body. The condition is extremely rare, effecting around 700 people world-wide (125 in the UK). It requires intensive therapy, and has no known cure. At the moment Joe is transfusion dependant and relies on blood transfusions every five to six weeks to keep him alive.
The DBA Support Group UK relies entirely on charitable donations to help bring families together and keep them informed on the latest research and treatments for the condition. They also provide much needed funding to a Research team based in St Georges Hospital, London. Research has been taking giant strides in the past couple of years and understanding what causes DBA is getting closer so every penny counts towards pushing things further.
Thanks so much for your support!
