Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  I am truly honored to be selected to join the Target Ovarian Cancer 2018 London Marathon team.

When I was 15, I started experiencing excruciating abdominal pain.  I was shuffled from doctor to doctor, but no one was able to find a diagnosis.  It was a very scary time for both me and my family... 

Finally, after months of confusion, they found a tumor on my ovary.  I was prescribed medication for several months, but that was ineffective.  Consequently, I had to undergo surgery to remove the tumor.  Having experienced this firsthand, Target Ovarian Cancer is a charity dear to my heart. 

Each year, over 22,000 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and 14,000 women will die from it.  The symptoms aren't always present or clear, leaving the 5 year relative survival rate at 45%.  When diagnosed and treated in stage 1, the five-year relative survival rate is 92 percent!   Unfortunately, only 15 percent of ovarian cancers are diagnosed in stage 1, making survival from ovarian cancer much worse than many other cancers.  In addition, there is a lack of effective treatment options, and research into new treatments lags significantly behind other cancer types.

That's where Target Ovarian Cancer can make a difference.  Almost 40% of their funds go towards research and early diagnosis.  They also provide many support services for those who are afflicted.  Won't you join me in this crusade to raise funds for an organization that can make such a difference in women's lives?
