Story
Last November my little sister Ruby fell ill with Meningitis and died just days before her sixth birthday. She had been misdiagnosed with swine flu by several doctors and told to go home. 48 hours after the first symptoms appeared she was brain dead. She was on life support for a week before her parents made the difficult decision to turn off the machine. The whole time she was in hospital, they never left her side.
Ruby was a little star who lit up the lives of
not only her family but her friends and neighbors too. If you met her,
chances are you would remember her! She was always laughing and jumping
about. She loved everything pink. She was a talented dancer, a keen
musician and a loyal friend. She had a sense of compassion, an
affection , and a wisdom beyond her years. In the days before she got
sick I thought her to play "Frere Jaques" on the piano. She played it
for anyone who would listen! She was looking forward to losing her baby
teeth. She has left a hole in my life that i doubt i will ever be able
to fill.
I am running the Flora Womens Mini
Marathon this June to raise money for the Meningitis Research
Foundation. This charity funds research to prevent meningitis and
septicemia, and to improve survival rates and outcomes. They also
promote education and awareness to reduce death and disability, and
give support to people affected.
Please donate anything you can afford towards my Run For Ruby.
