Story
Where to start? If you know me you know about Philip, my wonderful brother. He taught me many things about life that I am hugely grateful for. Despite having MD he lived a very full life thanks to my parents and his attitude - to make the most of what he could do and not dwell on what he couldn’t.
So… having started running in 2017 I’m not fast but I am constantly surprised with each distance I reach - from my first ParkRun (how awesome is ParkRun!) in 2017 to my first 10k in 2018 and the Great South Run’s 10miles in 2019… I tend to shed a tear when I know I’m going to make it to the finish - so it’s safe to say I’m not confident in my ability but I still seem to get there!
When I entered the London Marathon ballot I was relying heavily on the anecdotal stories of friends - that no one ever gets a ballot place. Hmmm, that didn’t pan out and now I’ve got to go for it. I’ll make the most of it - it won’t be pretty or fast but any support you can offer will go to MDUK, the most fantastic charity (also known as Team Orange which is also apt if you know my penchant for any sports gear in Orange). Safe to say the training is demanding and I can’t fathom running 26miles (42km to me!) but I’ll keep going and I know your support will spur me on.
Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity for the 70,000 children and adults living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. There's currently no cure, and in many cases, it limits lives. MDUK do vital work in funding pioneering research into treatments and cures as well as providing vital information, advice, resources and support for individuals and families living with these conditions. All donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated.
You can help improve the lives of people like Philip. Thank you!
