Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. In
May 2010, I'm going to run my first ever marathon. While I'm enjoying (or
battling with, depending on mood and weather ;-)) my marathon training, millions of
people all over the world can't think of a luxury like this, but have to fight
for bare survival and their basic needs being met.
Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders is an
independent humanitarian medical aid organisation committed to providing
medical aid where it is most needed, both in medical emergencies like the
recent earthquake in
as well as long-term, and regardless of race, religion, politics or gender. For
more information about MSF, please see their website:
http://www.msf.org.uk/
Me running a marathon in in itself won't make any difference
to people lacking basic medical care. However, taking this as an occasion to
ask for your support might. Please think about sponsoring me and making a small
(or not so small ;-)) contribution to the important work MSF is doing.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally
secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or
send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the
charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a taxpayer, so your donation reaches MSF without delay. Of
course, you're also very welcome to give me your donation in cash, if you
prefer.
42.1km (or 26.2mi) is a much longer distance than I've run so far. But a cause like this gives me a good reason to succeed. Your sponsorship will keep me going if the miles begin to drag and,
much more importantly, will keep MSF's vital work around the world
going, too.
Thank you very much for your support!
Update: I'm currently not running due to an inflammation of the knee. However, resting now should get the knee a bit better in time for 23rd May, and I'm absolutely determined to make it round the course. I might be a bit slower than I had hoped for, but your donations certainly won't be for nothing - I AM going to run the marathon. :-)15/05: First run in 5.5 weeks, very short and slow. I've lost a lot of fitness, but am looking forward to next Sunday. Thanks for all your support!
