Story
As I was making yet another pom pom bauble, Mr Rose asked why I was bothering? Fair question when you're made to sit on the other side of the sofa to your wife, separated by balls of wool!
I'm a Mum now, but I wasn't always a Mum, once I was a Child. And I talk to other Adults, who were once Children, and you realise it's not all Topsy and Tim - some people's lives were more Eastenders.
As our social services, education and other public services are cut, the vulnerable become more vulnerable. I've always felt passionately about the protection of the vulnerable, my Mum will tell you that I have always fought for the underdog.
But now more than ever our Children, the Children in my Community and Yours need our help. Our Children's Centres are threatened with closure, our Midwives and Health Visitors do fewer home visits, schools don't have the budgets to offer pastoral care. That's fine for the well-loved and protected, but those being neglected and abused become harder to find. Harder to Protect.
I've chosen the NSPCC for two great reasons:
1. ChildLine - 0800 1111 - and online, support is there for children and young adults 24/7
2. NSPCC Helpline -0808 800 5000 - and online, for adults concerned about a child to report abuse or talk over their concerns 24/7.
Of course, NSPCC do tonnes of work in schools and the community, and online campaigns. From education to support, they are there, for Our Children, Yours and Mine.
My target £1,000 could go towards:
* Educating 333 children via the Speak Out. Stay Safe. school programme
OR
*Answering 200 helpline calls
OR
* A week's worth of support from a qualified helpline practitioner
OR
* Keeping the helpline open to the UK and Channel Islands for 2 hours
As you can see, the NSPCC can do a lot with £1,000; though they'd need a lot of £1,000 to keep their work going! But I can't save the World, We Can Only Do Our Bit.
Let's All Do Our Bit because Every Childhood Is Worth Fighting For.
