And I would walk 500 miles....... · 8 June 2016

Story

I was diagnosed with Bowel cancer 6 months ago, which was a bit of a shock as I hadn't had any obvious symptoms or signs that anything was wrong.  In my case, although the original tumour has been removed, the spread of the disease ultimately can't be stopped.

I have enrolled on a study funded by Roche and administered by the Helen Rollason Research Trust to investigate and test maintenance medicines, designed to manage and limit the spread of the cancer. These medicines are being designed to specifically target cancer cells and inhibit their growth. The ultimate aim is that you don't have to die of cancer but can live with Cancer instead.

I would love for this to be an option for my children and grandchildren and would like to repay the Helen Rollason Research teams in some way.

I thought I could help raise funds for them - but how to do that when my "fit days" are random due to my chemotherapy and treatments and I am pretty much based at home in Essex? - by doing a virtual walk around the North Coast of Scotland and banking my steps!
In the words of the proclaimers song "I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more"

It's called the NORTH COAST 500 walk and is roughly 500 miles, or one million steps.

There are milestones along the way, so I shall start my 500 mile hike today and update you on progress as I reach the milestones. A small donation as a reward for reaching a milestone would be greatly appreciated 😊 If I average a couple of miles walking a day, I should be able to do it in a year or less!
