Story
Firstly, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, I know in normal times asking friends, family and colleagues to support with sponsorship is tough, but in the current climate this is even more challenging.
I'm taking on the Aspire Channel Swim 2022, swimming the distance of the English Channel over 12 weeks to raise money for Aspire. Why…?
Earlier this year I underwent an ALIF disc replacement and 10 weeks later a posterior spinal fusion. My recovery journey has not been smooth both mentally and physically, but I’m slowly chipping away at getting back on track to some kind of normality.
At the end of September, I was encouraged to try getting back to swimming and thought this challenge would be perfect alongside my rehab path. I have been completing most of my swims in the hydrotherapy pool at the Aspire centre in Stanmore (the heat stops my back seizing up the moment I enter the water) and there is a ramp to enter (steps are a no go at the moment). If it wasn’t for Aspire, I wouldn’t have been back swimming 11 weeks post the 2nd op!
Every four hours someone is paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury and Aspire provides the essential equipment, advice and housing that spinal cord injured people need to live their lives independently.
Any donations and gift aid you can spare, are hugely appreciated, you’ll feel good knowing you are helping people who have challenges in other ways and that your donation is going towards those with life changing Spinal Cord Injuries.
