Beginning in 1974, the Ride-in to benefit Pine Tree Camp has become a tradition with snowmobilers riding to support Pine Tree Camp, a summer camp for Maine children and adults with disabilities

Story

Pine Tree Camp opened its gates in 1945 as a summer camp for children with physical disabilities. Over the years, it has evolved into a place where children and adults with disabilities are able to participate in all the recreational activities for which Maine is known all year long. The barrier-free setting, along with an amazing staff, ensure that activities like swimming, fishing, kayaking, hiking, boating and even camping in a tent under the stars are completely accessible to all. Participating in activities that take people beyond their disability has a tremendous impact. It builds self-esteem and self-confidence. That experience coupled with meeting friends who understand and experiencing the feeling of acceptance is transformational. Pine Tree Camp welcomes all who could benefit regardless of their ability to pay tuition. All proceeds from the Snowmobile Ride-in will go to Pine Tree Camp's fund to ensure this "Open-Door Policy" remains in effect.

Get to Know Christie Robinson

Celebrity rider Christie Robinson is a familiar face on TV and the stage.  She’s cohost of the Telly Award-winning The Nite Show and longtime actor at Penobscot Theatre.  A native of Bucksport, she attended the University of Maine, Farmington and earned her MFA in acting at the University of Florida.  This summer you’ll see her onstage in the musical 9 to 5 in the role of Doralee Rhodes.  This winter, you’ll see her on a snowmobile for the very first time.

Have you ridden a snowmobile before?

I’m going to sound like such a bad Mainer but, no, I haven’t! It dawned on me after the fact that I would be riding one…. So, this will be a colorful first ride!

Do you like winter?

I do like winter, as long as it’s over by Valentine’s Day!  I lived in Florida for a few years, and I missed walking outside in temperatures so cold that it makes your face hurt.  I actually missed that!

Why is this snowmobile ride meaningful to you?

Pine Tree Camp was the hot place to work when I was in college. I had a lot of friends who worked there so I’m familiar with the good work Pine Tree Camp does. It’s all inclusive and the impact of what they do is so powerful.  I really believe in everybody having the chance to have different life experiences and make new memories.  I stand behind Pine Tree Camp 1,000 percent.

What is your favorite song right now?

Whenever somebody asks me my favorite anything, my mind goes completely blank! So, of course, I suddenly can’t think of a single song….  Wait! A (kind of) oldie but goodie that I love is Kygo’s Higher Love remake with Whitney Houston.  It’s such a feel-good song.  I love the original by Steve Winwood, too, but this remake is especially good - they didn’t wreck it!
