Christian Matthews - Climb for a Cause 2023 Mt Rainier, 9 August 2023
Each year, employees from local companies and foundations raise funds for Washington's National Parks by climbing Mount Rainier, Mount Shuksan (North Cascades) or Mount Olympus (Olympics). Are you ready to Climb for a Cause?

Story

Hello friends!

Why I'm climbing:

Growing up in the shadow of beautiful Tahoma/Mt Rainier, it's been a lifelong dream to attempt her summit! Thanks to the Washington National Parks Fund and Amazon Climb for a Cause, now I have the opportunity to pursue that goal with friends while also giving back by fundraising for this park and wilderness that I love and revere so much.

What is the Washington National Parks Fund?:

The WNPF is a spectacular organization that efficiently collects and transfers funds to critical projects across all 3 of our state's National Parks. (4/4 star Charity Navigator rating, highest grade program expense ratio https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/010869799). The WNPF directly supports multiple essential development projects throughout Mt Rainier National Park, including infrastructure to protect fragile alpine meadows, evaluating trails accessibility for people of all mobility status, and funding volunteer roadside assistance programs. Fundraising Details:

I have committed to a fundraising goal of $3500 raised for this climb, and I'd love to smash it with y'all! I have personally contributed $1750 which would cover the costs of guides/permits if I were climbing in a private party.

Fundraising Promotions:

PARTY!

July 16th all day! David and I will be hosting a day-long fundraising party with pizza, snacks, and a keg provided at our house! Throughout the day our goal is to climb up and down our stairs gaining combined total elevation equivalent to Tahoma's summit: 14,411 feet. We will climb up/down our 3 story house 418 times throughout the day. All guests are welcome to come hang out, enjoy refreshments/games, and even join us in training if desired!

Power Donors!

Just like with our political process, those who donate significant amounts of cash are entitled to some sweet benefits!

Donate anything: I will write your name on a hat/bandana worn to the summit.

Donate $100 or more: You are welcome to request a recorded song or shoutout video from the mountain.

Donate $200 or more: I will print out a paper doll in your likeness and bring you to the top with me, or bring any item requested weighing < 0.25 lbs to the summit and take a photo with it.

Donate $500 or more: At the summit I will shotgun a can of vitamin R in your honor, and bring you back another pristine can that's been at the top as well (Limit 1 to shotgun, unlimited cans shepherded to the top and down)

Thank you in advance for your generosity and for joining me on this adventure!
