Thanks for checking my Just Giving page out!
My name is Christian Erlandson and I'm about to take on my second half marathon this year to raise money for Charity. This time round I'll be running a half marathon for Invest in ME Research who are doing some amazing work to fund biomedical research into the causes and potential treatments for ME.
Why choose Invest in ME Research?
A good friend mine’s 14 year old son came down with a gastric bug in
September 2014. We expected him to be better and back to school in two weeks but he never returned. Overnight he went from a football mad, chatty boy who commuted across London to school to one who was unable to get out of bed.
Having ME is like having the worst flu you can imagine and it never going away. If you laugh with your friends it gets worse, if you walk downstairs too quickly it gets worse if you try to talk or think it gets worse. Any minor exertion that you use to do 100 times a day without thinking can now put you in bed in pain for weeks. ME steals jobs, homes, education and lives. Accountants can't count, dancers can't dance and children can't play or attend school. The frightening thing is that it can strike anyone, at any age, man or women.
More research is desperately needed to find a cure for a stigmatised disease that is more common than HIV or MS combined but receives a fraction of the support.
The good news is that there is very exciting research under way around the world. Invest In ME (www.investinme.org) are committed to raising funds and awareness to find the cause and cure and are a voluntarily run organisation doing some amazing work. They're the only organisation really making progress in working with scientists and researchers to find cures and treatments.
